Problem with young cat peeing in other places than the litter

Does anyone know why a young cat would pee on anything other than in the litter box? She hasn't had the problem long and we haven't had her for very long either. Our older cat goes outside mostly, and the new younger cat has gone mostly in the litter box, but sometimes she pees on the dog bed in our living room and last night she peed on our bed cover (luckily I caught it quick before it could soak through!!) She is spayed and up to date on shots - so I don't think it's an illness. Could it be that she's just finicky and we need to keep the litter box super clean?

Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks.

We had this problem with both of our kittens (6-10 months) after they had gotten sick. We started using Dr. Elsey's "Cat Attract" Cat Litter, and they never went outside the box again. It really does work, but it's kind of pricey. I can't remember what the bag size is (5 lbs or something like that), but I do remember it's $13.00 at PetSmart. You can buy it online or at any pet store (but not at Wal-Mart or Target). Every bag comes with a booklet with troublespotting hints and a coupon for your next bag. We used it for about six months, then slowly began switching to a cheaper brand. They're still using the box.

My cat did this because she had incontinece and could'nt hold herself to make it to the litter box.A vet can give her something for it!

Try putting another kitty litter somewhere else in the house...sometimes cats won't share kitty litter boxes.

Sometimes when cats get old they lose the ability to hold their urine, maybe your vet could help. My dear 16 year old Arthur lost the ability to hold both his urine and his feces, I sadly had to have him put down. It broke my heart he was like my best friend, i miss him, if you go to my site you can see pictures. alberta

As a petsitter, I don't petsit in my home. I go to their's for scheduled visits. So Lucy, if you are taking pets into your home, then yes, you would need some type of license or permit. You may even need to look into zoning issues with your home. Al…

They are probably referring to the licence you need from Louisville Metro Animal Control. You need a license for boarding (babysitting is considered the same thing as they are in your care during that time) You do need this as the fines are steep fo…

They might be referring to a business license, which you don't need for a pet sitting business. You might want to join a petsitters group like Petsitters International (www.petsit.com). They usually have a lot of good info for getting your business…
